About the test:
We previously tested the Lexus RC F, a brute of a car with similar looks. The range of different models is quite vast for the RC, but for the Netherlands it is limited to only the RC F and its hybrid stablemate the RC 300h. The RC 300h might not be as powerful as the 477 hp-strong RC F but what it does have is a very smart hybrid system that the luxury brand calls Lexus Hybrid Drive. An electric motor + battery pack are linked to a petrol engine to create a combined output of 223 hp. The 2.5 litre large 4-cylinder petrol engine in itself delivers 181 hp @ 6.000 r.p.m and a torque of 221 Newtonmeters between 4.200 and 5.400 r.p.m. Th!
e electric motor can deliver 143 hp and a maximum of 300 Newto!
nmeters of torque. The power goes only to the large rear wheels that measure 265/35 R19 (on the testcar). Rear-wheel-drive also means agile handling in corners and a good balance. It might not be the quickest sports coupe out there when you compare it to the likes of a BMW M4 or Audi S5 but it’s still pretty quick. 0-100 km/h takes only 8.6 seconds and when it reaches 190 km/h the electronics halt further acceleration.
But the most important part of this car is how it deals with fuel. On average the fuel consumption is only 5.0 litres per 100 kilometers which is very acceptable for a car with this performance and this weight; 1.700 kg is the minimum weight. You also won’t have to charge it externally which is a good thing when compared to plug-in hybrids and with different driving modes you can alter the character of the car. Settings are: ECO, NORMAL, SPORT and a full-electric EV-mode that cuts off the petrol engine for clean driving.
